Hi, I’m Karen at Hoskyn’s – welcome to our family business! We are passionate about good food, and our team specialises in bringing you delicious handmade pies and local artisan cheeses. I am delighted to welcome you into our kitchen and to share our story with you.

About Us

Our Story

I was brought up in a family of butchers and delicatessen owners with a history dating back to the early 1900s. Starting out as wholesalers, the first family deli opened in London in 1957, where we were one of the country’s first independent food retailers to import olive oil, cured meats, frog’s legs, snails and other exotic products, in addition to a fresh coffee grinding machine.

My grandfather John Mclean butchered, cooked and cured all his own meats where possible, and had one of the very best British and continental cheese counters London had to offer. My grandmother Winnifred Mclean commanded the front of house, buying and selling such innovative produce to serve both the British and Ethnic communities moving into the area at the time. They passed the business down to my uncle and my mother, who carried on the traditions of excellence and innovation.

Today, we at Hoskyn’s are the inheritors and custodians of these traditions, and we are proud to bring our award-winning handmade pies and the finest quality local artisan cheeses to the tables of food-loving families across the country.

We are excited to have been named British Pie Awards Winners

Our handmade pies are packed to the brim with fillings made from 100% natural locally sourced ingredients, encased in a delightful short rough crust pastry.

As well as the traditional staples, we provide a wide range of creative combinations and new flavours across meat, vegetarian, and vegan options. Pushing the boundaries to bring you the best, just like our family deli 70 years ago.

We are especially proud to have been named British Pie Awards Winners. As featured on the BBC, the annual British Pie Awards in Melton Mowbray is the pinnacle of our industry, with a selection of pastry-connoisseurs and experts selecting the country's best pies from thousands of entrants. Our Chicken, Mushroom and Tarragon Pie was crowned a winner in 2023, awarded Bronze in the Chicken & Vegetable / Herb Pie category. It was a very proud moment for us, and recognition for the team’s hard work.
